Area surveys
Nadir or near-nadir lines over a drawn area, for orthomosaics, DSMs and coverage.
- GridA nadir lawnmower survey of a drawn area, for orthomosaics and elevation models.
- Double gridA cross-hatched survey: the grid flown twice at crossing bearings, for 3D reconstruction of an area.
- CorridorParallel lanes along the long axis of a drawn strip, for roads, rails, pipelines and riverbanks.
- SolarRow-aligned passes over a solar array, for RGB or thermal capture.
- MagneticMain survey lines plus perpendicular tie lines at constant altitude, for magnetometer surveys.
- Smart adaptiveA uniform grid plus a finer, lower, cross-hatched pass over regions that warrant a closer look.
- Roof inspectionA stop-and-shoot grid over a roof: the aircraft halts at each point to photograph it.
Structures
Camera aimed at a wall, a box, a tower, a turbine or a dome, from a stand-off distance.
- FacadeColumns and rows of photos across one wall, at stand-off, camera level and facing the wall.
- Facade mappingA denser facade capture for photogrammetric 3D models of a wall.
- Multi-facadeA facade pass on every wall of a building, each wall with its own stand-off, heights and spacing.
- BoxA rectangular circuit around a building at stand-off, camera aimed at the building's centre.
- TowerStacked rings around a tower or mast, each ring photographing the section beside it.
- Wind turbineTower, nacelle and both faces of each blade of a parked wind turbine.
- DomeRings that follow a dome's curve, with the camera on the surface normal, for silo caps and domed roofs.
Routes and points
Paths around or along something, single-point captures, and joined missions.
- OrbitCircles around a point of interest at one or more heights, camera aimed at the subject.
- Closed loopContinuous loops around a structure at one or more radii, without stopping at corners.
- LinearCaptures along a drawn route line, heading locked along it, for pipelines, rail, power lines and rivers.
- LateralSide-on photos of a linear asset from a parallel line at stand-off.
- WaypointsA route through drawn waypoints, with a choice of heading behaviour.
- PanoramaA hover at one point, rotating to photograph the horizon for a stitched panorama.
- 360 bubbleA hover at one point covering the whole sphere below the horizon, for a 360 photo sphere.
- Linked missionTwo or more saved missions joined into one sortie, with planned transitions between them.
How these pages are made
Each template was planned through the same API call the desktop app makes (Api.plan_mission), at development commit 0ae10e4, over synthetic test shapes placed in Aukerman Park. Synthetic test geometry placed in Aukerman Park, Ohio (41.30420 N, 81.75200 W): rectangles, strips, an L-shaped and a rectangular building footprint, and drawn route lines, sized per template (see test_inputs). Planned through app.api.Api.plan_mission (the same call the desktop app makes) with the Api defaults: 55 m unless stated, 75 % forward and 65 % side overlap, 8 m/s, mavic2pro camera profile, no terrain model, 20 m minimum and 120 m maximum altitude unless stated.
